Nicolas Moreton

“You never stop learning. Every day is a day of revelation.”
Nicolas has been carving stone since 1984.He has always felt lucky to have studied at a University that actually had a stone carving department that was lead by the brilliant and inspiring Master carver John Paddison.
Since that time Nicolas has enjoyed a long and passionate relationship with the medium, believing strongly that is the direct action of hand carving that creates an understanding of the forms at a pace sympathetic to the medium. More recently the elements of light and heat have been added within his sculptural language creating a new dynamic to his work.
His work is centred around the figure-its humanity and fertility of life force’s. His work goes from the figurative to the organic and can be highly sexualised or almost abstract, but to the sculptor it is always rooted in the wonderment of life
. Based in Rural Northamptonshire his work is now collected worldwide. He is constantly exhibiting around the UK. In 1995 he became a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors. In 2006 he was awarded the Brian Mercer Fellowship and in 2010 he was awarded the “People’s Choice” award at the National Sculpture Prize held in Liverpool. More recently he has been an award wining artist at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Major public art works can be seen in London,Yorkshire,Milton Keynes and Dublin.
Nicolas is happy to be contacted direct to undertake Private and Public commissions. He is currently represented by Messum’s Fine Art.
